Theatre is loved and appreciated in London like no other place. That is why if it is on the top 30 list in London, it is bound to be great! If a person is new to the theatre then starting with the top ten in ticket sales is a great way to begin the theatre adventure.

1. We Will Rock You (Dominican Theatre): A fantasy story that revolves around rock music and its revival, by the ardent fans of the band “Queen”, who face opposition of youth culture and rock music.

2. Thriller (Lyric Theatre) A Tribute to Michael Jackson’s musical genius. You can also see performance by the Jackson 5. It is a tribute to the MJ’s career and smashing hits during his lifetime.

3. The Lion King (Lyceum Theatre): The Disney classic comes to life on stage with a heart-warming story of a young lion who is deceived to believe that he is responsible for his father’s death by his uncle but later finds out and regains his rightful place as the king.

4. The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre): The tried and true tale of the Phantom. It is a heart-breaking yet touching story of a genius who loves a woman but dies alone of broken heart.

5. Billy Elliot (Victoria Palace Theatre) The story of a boy who falls in love with the dance and by the end of the story he owns to the fact that even though it is not considered “manly” by some people, it is still he loves to do.

6. Stomp! (The Ambassadors Theatre): It is an energetic tap dance with garbage cans, wooden poles, matchboxes and so on; percussion at its best.

7. Shrek The Musical (The Royal Drury Lane): Shrek is a non-social, humans hating ogre who is forced to rescue Princess Fiona but falls in love with her not knowing about her curse.

8. Les Misérables (The Queen’s Theatre): The epic tale of passion a midst a revolution. This is a story of a convict who learns principles and morals, all the way influencing others to be the same.

9. Wicked (Apollo Victoria): The forgotten sister in the Wizard of Oz shares her tale. The story shows greed, pain and joy.

10. Rock of Ages (Shaftesbury Theatre) 1980’s Rock scene musical with a dash of love, life’s hardships, a passion to chase dreams all the way striving to be successful in what does the best.

11. The Book Of Mormon: London has been swept away by this hilarious theatre play. It is a play that has won many awards. It is the story of two Mormon missionaries trying to spread the word in Uganda. What results is an edgy satirical hilarity that makes fun and is witty, yet touching.

12. Blood Brothers: Twin boys separated at birth reunite by chance; however the story ends in tragedy.

13. Mamma Mia! Musical based on the music of ABBA. This musical comes in with a great story that has a funny and mysterious twist.

14. Matilda the Musical: The magical story of Matilda. Great for the whole family who like magic and sense of humour while teaching the bad guy a lesson!

15. Let It Be: Beatles based musical. Written by Paul McCartney, and credited to Lennon–McCartney, it was the last piece before the band’s separation.

16. Spamalot: A must see for every Monty Python fan who love to see plays about the Arthurian legend.

17. Top Hat: Relive the days of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers with a love story that has great musical numbers to offer.

27. Love and Information: A play with no main character but lots of different tales that is played through wonderful production and talented casting.

28. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: A fictional detective type story of a teen-aged math genius sets out to find his neighbour’s dog’s killer.

29. Three Sisters: The timeless Chekhov tale comes to life once more with the story of three sisters where only one is the happiest since she is able to get everything she wants at the cost of causing grief to others.

London Theatre is ever changing, there are so many new shows every season. The directors do new shows and try to be true to relive the old ones, all for the glory of a new cast and so that the next generation will be as excited about theatre as the previous one was. There is something for every taste out there. One of the new shows to arrive soon is The audience in London and if one is visiting London at least take one trip to a nearby theatre to watch the celebrity Helen Mirren at her best or any shows that has talented and famous casting. After one trip to the theatre, most people catch the bug and return over and over again, craving for new shows in all of its splendour!
